Cycling to Vat Phou
Bike for rent at Souchitra
Easy ride to Vat Phou (20km return) on a flat path. We offer good quality bicycles to keep the journey enjoyable.
Price : 100,000₭ (5$) per bike.
Best time to go : 2pm after the heat of mid-day, return at sunset. It takes 40min to do the 10km to Vat Phou. 90min visit (≈3-4h trip).
Why is it more expensive than the average bike in Laos? These are upgraded bikes for good comfort (easy to pedal, no noise, thick saddle). We maintain the bikes ourselves each day here at the guesthouse. All spare parts must be ordered from abroad to get decent quality.
Why Vat Phou only? The condition of some trails are fine by foot but too demanding for bikes that we try to keep at a decent price. This is why we focus only on Vat Phou and the other 2 ancient temples :
- Hong Nang Sida (2km from Vat Phou)
- Vat Muang Kang (along the Mekong on the way back, 7km from Souchitra).
Where else to go by bike? You can visit The River resort along the Mekong at 7km on our right. Nice for a drink in a beautiful and natural surroundings.
Also Davanh Coffee at 2km from Souchitra on the way to Vat Phou, just after the first bridge on your right. She sells coffee/tea/flowers under a traditional house, less than a dollar for a coffee made in a Moka pot.
Off-road cycling : if you wish to do off-road then we can suggest the mountain bikes on our right before Anouxa (800m). Not designed for comfort but you are free to go anywhere.
