Our purpose
The purpose of Souchitra is to offer a place for people to slow down, to find some inner peace before continuing their journey 🕊️
To align with this purpose we've learned that we need a few rules :
- Minimum age of 15 years old.
- No loudspeaker (low volume).
- The main gate is locked after 10pm for safety and peace.
- Maximum of 2 people per room.
Pricing
Low season (April to October) 400.000kip per night (19$).
High season (November to March) 500.000kip per night (23$).

- 3 nights and more : -50.000kip per night.
- 10 nights and more : -100.000kip per night.
- 30 nights and more : -30%
Rate : 1$ ≈ 22,000₭
Paiement :
- Paiement in cash at check-in, an ATM and a bank are available at 300m on the right.
- Paiement by card by using an app like Ezykip or Loca and scanning our Qr code.
Check-in : from 2pm or in-between 11am and 12pm depending on availability.
Check-out : 11am.
Where to eat ?
Breakfast is not included but available just in front of us at Boupha Garden Cafe (7:30am-5pm).
Other restaurants are within walking distance with a beautiful view upon the Mekong River as Champasak with Love, Saythong, Homemade or Soum Noum for European food and wood-fired pizza.
Average cost per meal in Champasak : 3-5$ for local food and 5-10$ for European food.

How to go to Champasak
From Pakse to Champasak :
- songthaew (local bus) for 3$ (60.000kip) at Dao Heuang Market, 9am to 2pm, departure every hour, no booking required, ask Champasak/Souchitra. There is no official bus stop, he stops where you want.
- a private tuk-tuk or taxi for around 20$ (450.000kip) with the Xanh SM app or 021 988 888.
45min drive on a good road.
From the 4000 Islands to Champasak :
- Book a ticket directly at the Green Paradise office. It should include a boat to Nakasong + mini-van to Ban Muang and a second boat to cross to Champasak. A tuk-tuk is usually at the top of the pier, we are at 2km from the ferry.
Transportation in Champasak
- Bicycle at 5$ (100.000kip). We offer good mountain bikes regularly maintained with comfortable saddle. More details on the Cycling page.
- Scooter at 10$ (200.000kip) at Khamphouy Guesthouse 200m to the right of Souchitra.
- Tuk-tuk to Vat Phou return for 13$. (250.000kip). Count 100.000kip extra per other ancient temples : Hong Nang Sida and Vat Muang Khang.

- Hong Nang Sida (12km)
Don Daeng Island
We can call a boat driver to get you to Don Daeng Island in front of Souchitra. 200.000kip (10$) return for 1-2 persons. 100.000kip (5$) per extra person.
- Enjoyable 12km loop around half the island starting North. By foot all year, or bicycle during the dry season (November to April).
- 10km to reach and sit under the big tree at the South of the island, beautiful view all around.
- Best time to go is 8:30am for freshness or 1:30pm and come back at sunset.
- Beautiful sunset view from La Folie Lodge around 5pm. Nice for a drink, the boat driver can bring you back to Champasak from there.

Leaving Champasak
From Champasak to Pakse :
- 2 songthaews (local bus) pass by the front gate in-between 6:30am and 7:15am. 60.000kip (3$), 50min to Dao Heuang Market in Pakse. No booking required, just wave.
- a tuk-tuk is 500.000kip (25$), up to Pakse Airport, anytime. We can help you book one.
From Champasak to the 4000 islands :
- Tickets at Khamphouy at 200m to the right of Souchitra. 15$ all included with 2 boats and modern mini-van from Green Paradise. Departure at 8:15am, 3h trip.
From Champasak to Ubon Ratchathani in Thailand 🇹🇭 :
Option A (15$) :
1. Wait for a songthaew (local bus) at Souchitra's gate from 6:30am. 2 of them pass in-between 6:30am and 7:15am (60,000kip/50min to Dao Heuang Market in Pakse).
2. From Dao Heuang take a tuk-tuk to the KiengKai bus station at about 2km.
3. Tickets to Ubon are available from 8:30am, costing 150,000kip (7$), with the bus departing at 9:30am.
The journey takes approximately 4h, arriving in Ubon bus station around 1:15pm.
Option B (40$ to 60$) :
🚕 An alternative is a private taxi to go straight to the border from Souchitra, around 35$. Before taking an other taxi or bus in Thailand.

From Bangkok to Champasak :
- plane from Bangkok to Ubon Ratchathani (50$)
- van to cross the Lao/Thai border (5$) or Taxi (25$)
- taxi to Souchitra (around 25$)
From Vientiane the capital of Laos you can get a flight to Pakse for around 60$/1h. We don't recommend the night bus Vientiane/Pakse as the road is not great.
Once in Champasak there is everything needed to live peacefuly :
- restaurants within walking distance
- enjoyable loops around Champasak Village for hiking or cycling
- laundry service at 30.000kip/kg at Souchitra
- your room is cleaned twice a week and you can message us in English or French if you need help
- convenient shops nearby
- Paksé is a bigger city where you can find many things, it is at 45min from us (30km) on a good road
We've been living in Champasak since February 2023 after taking over this abandoned guesthouse, and it has been a fulfilling experience here in-between mountains and river.
